This season’s Yardstick Competition was held on Sunday 29th May and, apart from the chilly wind, it was an excellent day as shown in the photo below.

The format was changed from recent years such that each player bowled their 4 woods one after the other without interference from another competitor. It worked well and will undoubtedly be used in this format going forward. One big benefit is that it can be played without organising a round robin so it can accommodate any number of players.

The rinks were set up with one of a short, medium or long jack with the mat always placed 2m from the ditch. This reduced play time and also ensures the competitors have to demonstrate their skill over the same varied jack lengths.
With 18 entrants, two games were played before lunch and 2 games after, 24 ends in all compared to 30 ends played in the past. There was a clear Winner for the Ladies with Chair Sally Daniells leading the field. The Ladies' Runner Up spot was a tie between Jeanie Davies and Gill Robins but on a one-end shoot out, Jeanie won the day. Well done Jeanie!
The Men's competition was incorrectly declared at the Club as Norman Daniells first and Andy Scott second. Later that evening, when the Competitions Secretary, Kevin Browne was recording the scores for the Club records, he spotted he had made an error in the adding up and, as a result, the positions were reversed. The Men's Winner was Captain Andy Scott and the Runner Up, Norman Daniells. We’ll done Andy!
The top three scorer in the Ladies' and Men's categories are shown below along with a picture of Norman measuring one of Andy's bowls with his yardstick!
