Winter Season Socials

Although we no longer hold weekly Whist sessions or Arts & Craft afternoons because heating the Club house is too costly at present, we still hold the one-off events which attract a good number of members.

On 21st October, we held our Annual Dinner & Trophy Presentations at the Henley Golf Club with Councillor Ken Arlett representing our patron, the Mayor. Once again the Henley Golf Club did us proud with an excellent meal and venue. Under guidance from our toastmaster Norman Daniells, Ken handed out the trophies to the winners and runners-up of all the competitions played in the 2022 season. Great fun was had by the 40+ attendees. Members can look in the Members' Galley in the Members' area for the photographs.

On 12th November, member David and Theresa Palmer hosted a Quiz for 40 members, family & friends in the Club house and although there were no fish & chips served this year, everyone had a great time. Quizmaster David is planning on holding another quiz in February.

We held a Carols evening on 5th December led by the Salvation Army band & choir. With mince pies and mulled wine to support the entertainment, the Club raised £200 for the Salvation Army's good causes. Click on the "black" screen below to see a video of Sally, Norman and Maurice volunteering to sing some of the verses solo.

On Sunday 11th December, the Club hosted a Christmas Lunch for its members and once again, David and Theresa Palmer led the cooking ably assisted by Bob and Jackie Handley. With a meal of canapes, followed by the full turkey roast and all the trimmings, the 40+ attendees were then treated to a choice of traditional Christmas pudding or trifle, fruit salad or roulade. The latter items contributed by other members. If that wasn't enough, cheese and biscuits were available for those who had any room left.

Everyone had a great time with a Christmas quiz organised by Norman and, we were honoured with the presence of our lovely Dilys and Di.

To top it all off, we had a visit from Santa who handed out secret Santa presents to everyone. Here he is, handing over Dilys's present with Chairperson Sally keeping an eye on things.

This lunch brought our socials for 2022 to a close but the New Year brings a few more before we starting bowling again.

On the 2nd January we will hold our New Year's Walk where we meet at the Club for bacon butties before Norman leads us on a 5 mile (ish) walk. We then return to the Club for warming soup & mince pies.

The 18th February will see another Quiz organised by David and then we start to prepare for the new bowling season with our Spring-Get-Together in late March .

This is when existing members sign up for another year of lawn bowls and submit their entry forms for the Knockout Competitions. However, before we finally get on the green, Norman will be organising another walk for Good Friday with butties for breakfast and soup for lunch.
