With so many frosts in April, our green keeper held back our eager bowlers until Saturday 1st May.
Despite Covid restricting us to a maximum of 24 players on the green, our first week has been great fun and busy. The weather has been mixed with plenty of sunshine, cold winds and some scattered showers.
On Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd we had fully attended roll-ups followed by socially distanced drinks from the bar to follow.
We played our first session of “Points” on Tuesday morning (this being a season long competition with trophies awarded for winners and runners-up).

On Thursday, we hosted a Caversham Men’s team for our first friendly of the season and although Henley won on 2 rinks and lost on 2 rinks, Henley won overall by 78 shots to 68. It was surprisingly pleasant and sunny weather for most of the match but got chilly when the sun went down.

During the week, keen members booked a rink or two to practice their technique. Hopefully it will stand them in good stead for the Friday evening Spoons competition, the matches against Trentham on Saturday and Woodley on Sunday. As the Woodley match is away, there will be another roll-up on the Sunday for up to 24 players. Lets hope it stays dry!
