On Wednesday 25th May, 16 staff from Invesco hired the Club for a team event. With the usual Club Committee members of Sally, Andy, Kevin, Jeanie, Norman and Barrie in attendance, we trialled “Target”. This is a game designed to give instant feedback to the novice bowler that they are close to the jack.
The game was organised as 2 triples and 1 pair and the rinks arranged so that they played “to the river” on one rink and played back “to the Clubhouse” on the adjacent one. Each jack was placed on one of the mats used to protect the green in the wet and the bowler‘s task was to get their bowl to stop on the mat.
The game is similar to playing Yardstick (the green mats are 2m wide) so the bowler still has to be reasonably accurate.
Each team had coloured stickers put on their bowls to make counting the shots easier. Every bowl on the mat scored a point. No extra points for touching the jack and, if the jack was knocked off the mat it was replaced. Essentially the jack was just a focus point for the bowlers.
As can be seen with the picture below, the rinks with the pairs were pretty good. Andy worked hard to try and recruit them.

All together an enjoyable and profitable evening, especially as the rain eventually stopped around 4pm and it turned into a pleasant evening, albeit with a a bit of a chilly wind.
