Gala Day

Henley Bowling Club held their annual Gala day last Sunday on a beautiful sunny day, and welcomed 14 teams from clubs from Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire all to compete for the Mixed Triple Shield and prizes generously donated by sponsors A.B.Walker for the winners and runners-up plus their individual plaques to keep. There were also items to be won in the raffle which included cash prizes, basket of fruit, bottles and flowers etc.

The game comprised 6 end matches played as a 2 pool round robin which started at 10am and continued until 6pm ending up with a final at 6.15pm. Within that time there was a break for lunch and tea. Chair Sally Daniels said, “We were also pleased to welcome the Mayor who is Patron of our club, together with the Mayoress and their family for an all too short visit. Councillor Dave Eggleton also popped in. Two representatives from our sponsors arrived in time for tea, staying through to the end of the final when Cynthia Townley, on behalf of Walkers, presented the Shield and Plaques.

The winners were Palmer Park, Reading, triple of Margaret Gearing, Jack Hannah and Brian Holland,

who defeated the triple from Harwell with Bob Barnard, Vionne Thornhill and skip John Govans.

Sally added, “The final replicated much of the good bowling seen during the day thus bringing it to an exciting finish".
