Yardstick 2024

This season's Yardstick competition was played on 11th May and 19 competitors took part. The weather was lovely although hot, there was a pleasant breeze. The competition took what is now the standard format of 2 games of 6 ends each in the morning and 2 games of 6 ends each in the afternoon.

After the first game, there was little to choose between players with Gill Robins edging the Ladies’ competition with Angelika Crisa in second place. In the Men's competition Dave Wilson was just ahead of Barrie Davies. In the second game, positions in the Ladies' competition hadn't really changed but, in the Men’s competition, although John Munnelly had caught up to Barrie, Dave had had a fantastic session scoring 21 shots out of a possible 24. This extended his lead over the now tied second placers, Barrie and John.

Lunch clearly affected some player’s rhythm and concentration. In the Ladies’ competition, although Gill was still out in front, there were now only 2 points separating Angelika’s second place and Sally Daniells, Jeanie Davies and Joan Edwards.

Dave maintained his 10 shot lead over Barrie who had created some daylight from John but now Kevin Browne was in contention in 3rd place. Andy Scott and Colin Ward were also starting to close in on John making the last game quite intense.

The final game saw Gill Robins and Dave Wilson maintain their positions as winners and the battle for second place in the Ladies' competition was eventually won by Joan who had been last season's Ladies' Yardstick winner. Whereas Barrie Davies maintained his second place in the Men’s competition, John Munnelly and Colin Ward tied in 3rd place.
