On Sunday 27th July, Henley held its 2 Wood Pairs Competition. Sixteen members entered.

The Competition Secretary split the entrants into skips and leads, primarily based on handicaps, and the skips then “drew” their team number. The leads then “drew” their team number and the competition was ready to start once everyone had drunk their morning tea or coffee and downed a hot cross bun kindly prepared by Sally. Teams 1-4 were in the Blue Pool and Teams 5-8 in the Pool.

The first game started shortly before 10:30am and each Team in a Pool played a round robin of 3 games of 12 ends each. After tossing for control of the mat, the skips placed the jack to keep each game to the estimated 50 mins duration. All teams played their 3 games straight through, although one or two stopped for another cuppa and a bun between games. All Pool games were completed by 1:15pm and lunch was then taken whilst Kevin calculated the results.

After lunch, the top two teams from each Pool then played off in the semi-finals with Blue Pool winners, Ramsay Adams and Peter Watkins losing to Red Pool runners-up Nigel Bridges and Richard Kingston and Red Pool winners Pete Falle and Terry Hearmon beating Blue Pool runners-up, Kevin Browne and Glynis Holland.

After a short break the final was played and Pete Falle and Terry Hearmon triumphed over Nigel Bridges and Richard Kingston.
