Learn to Bowl - Arrange a Lesson

Introduction

Assuming you’ve arrived at this page because you are interested in having a go at Lawn Bowls, here is a little more information.

Video Lessons?

If you have the time, there are plenty of videos on YouTube which will tell you about the game. Here is one of 3mins long which gives a good overview https://youtu.be/NJQHl-PNKl4 and for a short description of the basics, click here.

Dress Code

For lessons and casual play there is no specific dress code. For matches against other Clubs we bowl in team shirts with grey trousers mid-week and white trousers at the weekend. You need to wear shoes which have flat soles so they don’t make indents on our lovely lawn.

Also, if it looks like it’ll be a hot day, bring a hat and sunscreen.

Equipment

We’ll provide all equipment and we have a variety of bowls of different sizes to suit.

When to Bowl

A lesson of 1 hour is sufficient but if you’re enjoying it then you can certainly stay on the green for longer.

Check out the Fixtures and Diary pages of the website to find a day when we aren’t playing at home, otherwise most days from May to September are available.

We usually don’t start before 10:30am and we could start a lesson anytime from then through to about 7:00pm. We do bowl in the rain but we would rather not so check out the weather forecast too.

How many?

One or two beginners at a time is best but one teacher could probably cope with four at a time if you wanted to learn as a group. Normally with four beginners we would get two teachers and split the group.

So if you really are interested, drop us a message through our Contact Us page and we’ll get back to you pretty quickly.
